AFRICA - Oct 15-25, 2008
A red-billed oxpecker perches atop a giraffe. Balule Game Reserve, Hoedspruit, South Africa.
In October we fulfilled a dream we'd both had since meeting one another - a trip to Africa to view animals while on safari. It was truly an amazing experience, one that is hard to describe in words or appreciate in pictures alone.
We traveled over 18,000 miles in eleven days, while visiting three African countries - South Africa, Zimbabwe and Botswana. Along the way, we saw hundreds of animals, including all of the big five (buffalo, elephant, leopard, rhino and lion). Along the way, we snapped off over 1100 photos!
A young male lion. Balule Game Reserve, Hoedspruit, South Africa. Our experiences ranged from viewing the dramatic and powerful Victoria Falls, to boating down the Zambezi River in search of hippos, to approaching a growling lion on foot. We have taken the best photos and set them to music and narration lifted directly from our travel journals. It was a time consuming project, but a great way for us to relive the trip, and to share some of our experiences with family and friends.
